The Camunda Carbon Reductor can be configured to reduce carbon emissions based on Service Level Agreements (SLA) for the process like the maximum cycle time for a process instance. Information about the SLA is entered along with a forecast of how long the remaining tasks will take. The configuration allows the Carbon Reductor to independently optimize execution by time shifting the remaining activities without violating the SLA for maximum cycle time. When called our Camunda Carbon Reductor Job Worker picks up the job and uses the configuration to query a forecast of the carbon intensity of the current location to find the optimal time window for the process to proceed. Using Camunda Optimize you can visualize how much carbon emission could be saved by time shifting the energy-intensive service tasks. You can inspect your undertaken efforts and the resulting accomplishments regarding your heartsfelt desire to reduce the carbon footprint of your business processes.

Time shifting

Using the time shifting mode (default) the Carbon Reductor Connector allows you to optimize for lower carbon emissions by moving your process execution into a timeframe with the least amount of carbon possible while still fulfilling SLAs.

Measurement

Using the measuring mode the Carbon Reductor Connector allows you to measure the emissions in gCO2e/KWh at execution time and reports as well the emissions at the optimal time while still fulfilling your SLAs.
